The Lankan Trail Troop

2021 Sep 15

As human beings, we live in a society that is constantly evolving. It’s important to support this evolution positively by learning about the diverse cultures and backgrounds around the world, while spreading love and awareness. Often, we get caught up in our daily lives, either judging or being judged by others who are different from us. This creates a limited perspective, a bubble that confines our view of the world. Saint Augustine famously said, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” It’s crucial to break free from these barriers and connect with reality, much like the forces of nature. From my perspective, travel plays a significant role in this process.

Traveling, whether domestically or internationally, exposes us to life’s variety. Learning about the world’s racial and ethnic diversity can lead us to reassess some of our beliefs. Additionally, witnessing the natural diversity in different geographical locations is truly remarkable. Experiencing various climates and observing unique flora and fauna can invigorate the mind. As a foodie, exploring different restaurants and cafes and discovering unique flavors is a major reason I love to travel.

Moreover, travel allows us to experience diverse music, clothing, and expressions, many of which we carry back home with us. While technology allows us to see and hear these things with a simple click or swipe, I believe that the authentic, physical experience of travel is unmatched. As a junior travel consultant, someone new to the tourism industry, I feel I've found a career where I can grow while enjoying the tasks involved. Designing travel itineraries, coordinating guides and transportation, arranging accommodations, and setting up exclusive experiences for tourists visiting Sri Lanka brings me joy. Knowing that I'm helping people create memorable experiences in my homeland fills me with pride. Additionally, being part of a trade that increasingly appreciates the beauty of Sri Lanka is another reason I love my work.
